    Author Chat :: Summer Reading :: Reece Carter

    January 30, 2022 /

    You know I love any excuse to have writers here on the blog for a chat, and since I’ve been keeping an eye out for middlegrade reads to keep my newly 8 year old busy over summer I thought it would be fun to talk to a few fellow middlegrade readers about their summer reading habits and get a few recommendations at the same time. Today I have the pleasure of welcoming Reece Carter here for a chat. Reece is a Sydney-based writer – his debut middlegrade fantasy novel will be released later this year. Check out our chat below… Hey Reece! Thanks so much for joining me on BookishBron.com…

    Christmassy :: Q&A :: Samone Amba

    December 12, 2021 /

    I feel like there has been some really outstanding Aussie middlegrade coming out this year, and one of the titles I have on my TBR that looks fantastic is Samone Amba’s debut novel The Good Times of Pelican Rise: Save the Joeys. This one looks like perfect school holiday reading for kids heading into or just coming out of grade 5 or 6… Grade sixers Sunday Moon and her besties Ockie, Kirra and Lottie are MAROONED in after-school care at Club Koala with the karaoke-loving grade twos and nit-infested preppies for company. It’s not exactly the way these legends thought they’d be ending their time at Pelican Rise Primary!But after…

    November 22, 2020 /

    A couple of years ago I did a little series of Q&As with authors where we talked about books and Christmas. It was so much fun that this year I’ve decided to bring them back! First up to chat Christmas with me is the lovely Sandy Barker. Sandy has a new novel out called The Christmas Swap – it has been my favourite Christmassy read so far this year (you can see my review here). Here’s the blurb for The Christmas Swap – read on for our chat. Chloe, Jules, and Lucy meet at a Maui resort kids’ club, aged 11, forging a lifelong friendship spanning two decades and three…

    Q&A :: Petronella McGovern :: The Good Teacher

    September 27, 2020 /

    A week or so ago I reviewed Petronella McGovern’s new novel, The Good Teacher, a contemporary thriller about love and relationships and trust and community. The book absolutely grabbed me – there were so many threads and twists that just came together so cleverly, and I am absolutely fascinated by how suspense writers craft such mind blowing stories. Luckily for me (and you!), Petronella very kindly agreed to answer some questions about her writing, and I’m sharing her answers here today. Read on to find out more.*** Hi Petronella! First I just wanted to say a big thanks for joining me on Bookish Bron today, and congrats on the release…

Spending the weekend in Melbourne meant I was face Spending the weekend in Melbourne meant I was faced with the age old dilemma of how many books to pack. I was away from Friday morning to Sunday night and took these three:
🐝 All the Bees in the Hollows by @laurenkeeganwriter
💫 Time Travel for Beginners by @jaclynmoriarty
🧊 Under Story by @chloekbenjamin

Are three books too many for a three-day trip? In my defense, I has 8 hours of bus travel on Friday, and was part through Time Travel already - I finished right on the halfway mark of the bus ride (adored it - everyone MUST read) and read most of All the Bees in the Hollows before I arrived. Then I made decent progress on Under Story while I waited for my flight!

How many books do you pack for a weekend away?
