Cooking :: FROM OUR KITCHEN TO YOURS :: CWA Victoria

I know I’m not alone when I say that my passion for baking and cooking has been reignited over the past 12 months. In part, for me, I think it’s being at home more, having more time for those recipes that need a little more patience , as well as having less access to cafes and restaurants for a special meal here and there. Also there’s an aspect of wanting to do something practical that feels like nurturing myself and my loved ones – preparing food for them hits that spot for me. With more time in my kitchen has also come a renewed interest in new recipes and beautiful cookbooks. I thought it might be fun to start sharing some here on my blog, because I’m always on the lookout for something new, and maybe you are too.

First up I’ve got From Our Kitchen to Yours, a collection of favourite recipes from the Country Women’s Association of Victoria, which is brand new out last week. I think we can all agree that the CWA has a great reputation for recipes that are classic and reliable, and this book looks like no exception to that. The recipes cover sweet and savoury bakes, as well as soups, salads, dinners, desserts and preserves (including jams/pickles/chutney/sauces.

On my first flick through of the book there were a bunch of recipes that caught my eye, but with a mid-April release from the CWA, the obvious first recipe to try was the ANZAC biscuits (because I am sure the best recipes for ANZAC biscuits all come from your Nana or the CWA). I have actually been relegated to the supervision of a lot of the baking that goes on in our house, so I can tell you I watched my 7 year old make these (and helped with the stove/oven) and I honestly think they might be the be the best ANZAC bikkies ever baked in my kitchen.

The book itself is beautifully presented – it has a hardcover and while there aren’t photos for every single recipe, the ones that are in there are lovely and light and bright, and make you want to lick the page. The paper feels nice, and I think this one would make a great gift. I also really liked the bit at the start which gives some background about the CWA.

Big thanks to publishers Murdoch Books for sending us an early copy of this one to check out – I had seen it around and had it on my wishlist already, so it was a pleasure to get my hands on it a bit early!
