    Q&A :: Maya Linnell :: BOTTLEBRUSH CREEK

    August 11, 2020 /

Maya Linnell is one of my favourite Aussie rural romance authors, so I was absolutely delighted when she agreed to answer a few questions for me about her books and writing! Maya’s latest book Bottlebrush Creek tells the story of Angie McIntyre as she attempts to renovate a country home of her dreams, with the man of her dreams, right next door to her over-enthusiastic – and often over-bearing – mother-in-law. You can check out my review of Bottlebrush Creek here, and I hope you enjoy getting a little sneak peek into Maya’s writing in our Q&A below!*** Hi Maya! Thanks so much for joining me on my blog today!…

Q&A :: LÉONIE KELSALL :: The Farm at Peppertree Crossing

    August 5, 2020 /

Yesterday I posted my review of Léonie Kelsall’s rural romance novel The Farm at Peppertree Crossing, and today I have a little Q&A that Léonie kindly did with me. I hope you enjoy hearing more about The Farm at Peppertree Crossing!*** The property that is the setting of most of The Farm at Peppertree Crossing almost felt to me like its own character in the book (perhaps because it was so tightly entwined with the aunt the Roni only gets to know through her letters and living there?) – I am curious to know whether the setting or the character of Roni came to you first? Did you set out…

Q&A :: Darry Fraser :: ELSA GOODY BUSHRANGER

    July 1, 2020 /

On Monday I shared my review of Darry Fraser’s latest novel, Elsa Goody Bushranger, and today I’m delighted to be able to share a Q&A with Darry. I always love getting a little peek into the writing process, and am so grateful to Darry for sharing her time and answering these questions for me! =) *** Do you remember when the idea for Elsa Goody Bushranger first came to you, or what the first spark of inspiration for this story was? There were a number of things, but the main idea came from a picture I had in my head of a young woman in a darkened room reading a…

    June 19, 2020 /

I’m so delighted to be part of the Books on Tour Blog Tour for Ashling Kwok’s brand new picture book The Battle. This is a gorgeous book – both the story and those illustrations (by Cara King)! – about facing fears that are holding you back. Ashling was kind enough to answer some questions about the book and the inspiration behind it, so I’ll let her tell you more! Can you please tell us a bit about your latest title, The Battle? The Battle is the story of a little boy named Edward who is anxious about starting knight school. He’s sure that it will be full of ogres and…

Interview :: Tea Cooper author of The Girl in the Painting

    April 18, 2020 /

The first book I read from Harlequin’s HERSTORY campaign – featuring historical fiction about women who rebel – was Tea Cooper’s The Girl in the Painting. This was my second time reading a book by Tea, having read The Woman in the Green Dress last year, and I absolutely enjoyed both – you can see my reviews here and here. This week Tea has kindly answered a few questions I asked about The Girl in the Painting, as well as giving us a little sneak peek at what she has coming up for us next.  First, what is The Girl in the Painting about? Here’s the synopsis Maitland 1913 Miss Elizabeth Quinn is something of an institution in Maitland…

#HERSTORY Q&A :: Kerri Turner : The Daughter of Victory Lights

    April 8, 2020 /

Yesterday I posted my review of The Daughter of Victory Lights (check it out here if you missed it). I loved this book, and today I’m sharing a little Q&A with author Kerri Turner, who was kind enough to answer some questions I had for her about her books and writing. Enjoy!  In the notes at the back of The Daughter of Victory Lights you tell us a bit about some of the actual people/events that you drew on for the story, and I was really struck by how perfectly you have pulled these together into a beautiful story – for instance in the way that Evie’s training on spotlights…

Recently, I shared my review of #loveozya author Bonnie Wynne’s debut novel, THE NINTH SORCERESS. Bonnie was kind enough to answer some questions I asked about her writing process and book baby for me to share here. Here’s the synopsis of The Ninth Sorceress  from the Talem Press website  – keep reading below for our Q&A =) In the blackest dungeon of the Clockwork City, a prisoner lies bound in silver shackles. Who is she? And why are the wizards so afraid of her? Seventeen-year-old Gwyn has no family and no past. A few weeks ago I posted about a new horsey middle-grade novel I had read and loved – The Promise Horse by Jackie Merchant. Since then, I have been lucky enough to be able to get in touch with Jackie to ask her a few questions about writing The Promise Horse – her answers are below =)   Do you remember when the idea for The Promise Horse first came to you and what inspired you to write it? I don’t think there was just one moment or point of inspiration which led to idea of The PromiseHorse, but rather many moments and many thoughts that wove themselves together in…

I read @laurenkeeganwriter’s ALL THE BEES IN THE H I read @laurenkeeganwriter’s ALL THE BEES IN THE HOLLOWS 🐝 last weekend - and loved it! It was the perfect novel to take on my bus trip to Melbourne. I enjoy historical fiction novels so much (especially when they centre around the stories of women) and I find Lauren’s writing both incredibly beautiful and super immersive - I felt like part of the small community the book is set within and was completely caught up in the story. All the Bees in the Hollows is Lauren’s debut novel - I also adored her second book, The Woman in the Seal Skin, which I read earlier this year!
I can’t wait to see what she writes next 🤩🐝🦭
Spending the weekend in Melbourne meant I was face Spending the weekend in Melbourne meant I was faced with the age old dilemma of how many books to pack. I was away from Friday morning to Sunday night and took these three:
🐝 All the Bees in the Hollows by @laurenkeeganwriter
💫 Time Travel for Beginners by @jaclynmoriarty
🧊 Under Story by @chloekbenjamin

Are three books too many for a three-day trip? In my defense, I has 8 hours of bus travel on Friday, and was part through Time Travel already - I finished right on the halfway mark of the bus ride (adored it - everyone MUST read) and read most of All the Bees in the Hollows before I arrived. Then I made decent progress on Under Story while I waited for my flight!

How many books do you pack for a weekend away?
