    Canberra Writers Festival 2017

    August 27, 2017 /

If you follow me on Instagram (@bookishbron)  you’ll know I have just spent most of my weekend having a wonderfully bookish time at the Canberra Writers Festival. I went to four sessions, two on each day, and ate lunch in the sunshine yesterday while today it apparently snowed at lunchtime. Hello almost spring in Canberra haha.   While the festival is held at a bunch of venues across the city, all four sessions I attended were at the National Library of Australia. It is such a beautiful building, and in a perfect setting, it was a pleasure to spend the weekend there. The sun, the lake, the stained glass windows.…

    June 18, 2017 /

Ok, so this was nearly a month ago now, but it was so AMAZING that I’m still raving about it.The Sydney Writers’ Festival was held at the end of May, and included a whole day dedicated to celebrating Young Adult books – All Day YA.   The event included panels and interviews with authors – my friend Madeleine and I saw the following panels:– Love Oz YA Anthology: Begin, End, Begin – Keeping Company: Characters Across a Series – More Than Meets the Eye: Diversity in YA Fiction – Defying Expectations: How Do Female Writers Defy Stereotypes And also the TeenCon 2017 session (where publishers pitched some of their upcoming or recent…

    Free Comic Book Day 2017

    May 6, 2017 /

We have a fantastic local comic book store which we visit pretty much every Saturday morning (Sam has a standing weekly order with them).  It’s always a fun part of the weekend – while Sam checks out the new releases Amelia and I have a browse around and she points out characters she knows on the comics and merch, and has a chat with the guys who work there (who have know her since she was about 18 months old and Sam used to go in with her on his chest in the baby carrier on his days off work). The first Saturday of May is extra exciting, since it’s…

Cosy Reading Night :: April 2017

    April 23, 2017 /

Cosy reading night is a virtual readathon hosted by Lauren from Lauren and the Books, and it is just as wonderful as it sounds! An evening dedicated to reading and cosiness? Sign me up! Tonight is the third cosy reading night, and the second that I will be participating in, and it has been so much fun getting my cosy reading supplies together!   Let’s take a closer look at what I consider cosy reading night essentials! First let’s talk books and general cosiness (autocorrect wanted to call that General Cosiness!).   The middle book there – John Safran’s true crime Murder in Mississippi – is my partner Sam’s current…

I read @laurenkeeganwriter’s ALL THE BEES IN THE H I read @laurenkeeganwriter’s ALL THE BEES IN THE HOLLOWS 🐝 last weekend - and loved it! It was the perfect novel to take on my bus trip to Melbourne. I enjoy historical fiction novels so much (especially when they centre around the stories of women) and I find Lauren’s writing both incredibly beautiful and super immersive - I felt like part of the small community the book is set within and was completely caught up in the story. All the Bees in the Hollows is Lauren’s debut novel - I also adored her second book, The Woman in the Seal Skin, which I read earlier this year!
I can’t wait to see what she writes next 🤩🐝🦭
Spending the weekend in Melbourne meant I was face Spending the weekend in Melbourne meant I was faced with the age old dilemma of how many books to pack. I was away from Friday morning to Sunday night and took these three:
🐝 All the Bees in the Hollows by @laurenkeeganwriter
💫 Time Travel for Beginners by @jaclynmoriarty
🧊 Under Story by @chloekbenjamin

Are three books too many for a three-day trip? In my defense, I has 8 hours of bus travel on Friday, and was part through Time Travel already - I finished right on the halfway mark of the bus ride (adored it - everyone MUST read) and read most of All the Bees in the Hollows before I arrived. Then I made decent progress on Under Story while I waited for my flight!

How many books do you pack for a weekend away?
