    Friday Favourites :: 18 March

    March 18, 2022 /

Happy Friday again already. We had a public holiday here on Monday, and my week has epitomised that short post long weekend week in that it seemed to be both super short but also long at the same time! We’re really starting to feel like were pulling into the end of term (I think next week is week 8, so 3 weeks to go?), but also i just feel like everyone seems a little bit worn out (worn down?) at the moment. I’m not sure whether it’s the heaviness of the world right now, or the fact that we’ve hit 2 years now of pandemic looming over us, but there…

Now I know it is hardly original, but we are absolutely loving Greek Myths right now. I mean, they are having a moment, right? Our daughter recently spotted an ad for an exhibition at the National Museum of Australia about the Ancient Greeks and was keen to check it out, which we told her we could absolutely do, and suggested that we study up on some of the Greek myths first. So, for the past few weeks we’ve been listening to a podcast we found called Greeking Out by National Geographic Kids which retells the myths in a kid friendly way, and our daughter is LOVING it! (Like, she picks it…

One of my absolute favourite things about Instagram (and all kinds of social media, really) is the sense of community. I love a good readalong, or blog event (like Top 5 Tuesday!), or photo challenge. One of my favourite regular events on Instagram is The Fiction Feast, which is hosted by the fabulous Ale from ReadWithRiver (you can also find Ale on her website here). The Fiction Feast (you can check out posts here: #TheFictionFeast) is held every two months of so, and is an opportunity for influencers and bookstagrammers from both the kid lit and adult spaces to come together to share delicious flatlays of food and meals recreated…

I don’t like to speak too soon when it comes to the weather and seasons changing, because we all know Mother Nature loves a surprise plot twist, and it isn’t even like it has been a super long or hot summer. But I have to say one of my favourite things this week has been feeling those autumnal vibes on a few cool days this week. For some reason I feel even more keen for the cosy blankets and big cups of tea, and lazy weekend mornings in bed with my book. What has been your favourite this week? And are you also a cosy autumn lover? Let me know…

I can’t remember whether this is something I’ve shouted out as a fave before, but something I’ve really loved over the past few months is taking virtual cake and cookie decorating classes with Rosie from Rosie Cakes! A subscription to Rosie’s Inspire, Bake, Create membership gets you a monthly box of decorating tools and equipment which Rosie shows how to use in live classes. If you can’t make the live class everything is also recorded and made available for members to watch later. I love the little details Rosie thinks of – like providing a folder for the monthly recipes cards, and extra how-to videos on her instagram page as…

I am so deep in Aurealis Award entry reading at the moment and I am honestly loving it. It is such an honour to be part of something like the Aurealis Awards again, and I love the way it pushes me to read more over summer, but also more that I might not read otherwise. This week I’m especially grateful for the combination of great reading material, perfect hammock weather, and my lovely little garden (which I know I shouted out a few weeks ago, but it’s just so nice to have this little space!) My current read is Dirt Circus League, which is an aussie YA fantasy book by…

Happy Friday! How many guesses do you need to figure out what’s on my favourites list this week? Haha! Look, it’s not that I’m ever busting for school to go back. In fact, I’m a bit the opposite – I always feel like the holidays whizz past so quickly, and end up wishing we had just a little bit longer. Especially the summer holidays, with lazy mornings and long, warm evenings where it’s late past bedtime, and all the things with pack in with birthdays and visits and who knows what else. But I have to admit that this week I’m feeling good about having some routine back in our…

This week’s favourite is kind of a no-brainer. Last weekend after arriving home from our little mini break, we picked up two new furry babies to join our family – Jack (the tabby lad) and Trixie (the tiny tux). It has been a long time since we’ve had kittens in the house, and i had forgotten how wild they can be haha, but really they are such sweet loving little things, and it is so nice to have them here. Obviously they are adorable and we are all smitten with them! I’m sure there will be loads of kitten spam in the future! xo Bron A quick, sad note from…

Hello friends! Are we really almost a month into the year already? January is so busy here it just flies by with birthdays and holidays and what not. This week I’m super excited that we are taking some time to slow down a bit and have arrived at Hold cottage in Gunning for a few nights. We had the most wonderful time here celebrating my birthday last year, so I’m thrilled to be back, this time with my mum too. I’ve packed more books than I could possibly read, and am looking forward to a few days of quiet reading and eating cheese! What’s your favourite way to unwind and…

    January 14, 2022 /

Hello! Is it really mid-January already? I kind of love this time at the start of the year when there’s no school and the days are long and lazy. I’m actually working 2 days a week through January, but it still has kind of a luxurious feel with the evenings being so light and not having to commute thanks to WFH. This summer the weather has really been very mild by our standards, and I feel like we’ve been able to spend even more time outside than usual (most years a good portion of summer is spent hiding inside with the aircon!) and all of this has been my favourite…

I read @laurenkeeganwriter’s ALL THE BEES IN THE H I read @laurenkeeganwriter’s ALL THE BEES IN THE HOLLOWS 🐝 last weekend - and loved it! It was the perfect novel to take on my bus trip to Melbourne. I enjoy historical fiction novels so much (especially when they centre around the stories of women) and I find Lauren’s writing both incredibly beautiful and super immersive - I felt like part of the small community the book is set within and was completely caught up in the story. All the Bees in the Hollows is Lauren’s debut novel - I also adored her second book, The Woman in the Seal Skin, which I read earlier this year!
I can’t wait to see what she writes next 🤩🐝🦭
Spending the weekend in Melbourne meant I was face Spending the weekend in Melbourne meant I was faced with the age old dilemma of how many books to pack. I was away from Friday morning to Sunday night and took these three:
🐝 All the Bees in the Hollows by @laurenkeeganwriter
💫 Time Travel for Beginners by @jaclynmoriarty
🧊 Under Story by @chloekbenjamin

Are three books too many for a three-day trip? In my defense, I has 8 hours of bus travel on Friday, and was part through Time Travel already - I finished right on the halfway mark of the bus ride (adored it - everyone MUST read) and read most of All the Bees in the Hollows before I arrived. Then I made decent progress on Under Story while I waited for my flight!

How many books do you pack for a weekend away?
