Review :: Christmas Charms by Terri Wilson
I really think there is no ‘wrong’ time of year to get cosy with a sweet Christmas romance story, but I do have to admit that I have become quite partial to a Christmas in July reading binge. This year I’m keen to catch up on some festive novels that have been on my TBR for far too long. I also want to really make an effort to share a review every few weeks, so that come November I’ll have lots of recommendations to draw from. I’m starting today with a book from Hallmark Publishing (because, honestly, what says cosy Christmas love better than Hallmark?!) – Terri Wilson‘s Christmas Charms.
As always, you can read my full review below the novel’s synopsis.
What is Terri Wilson’s Christmas Charms about?
Ashley’s supposed to be having the Christmas of her dreams. After four years of working at an upscale jewelry store in Manhattan, she’s finally going to get a little velvet box of her own—from her boyfriend Jeremy, who’s taking her on a romantic trip to Paris. What could go wrong?
Well, everything.
Ashley heads home to Owl Lake instead, falling asleep on the train ride there…and waking up with a beautiful antique charm bracelet on her wrist. Soon, she realizes that each silver charm predicts an event that happens in real life. What does this mean for her and Jeremy…or her and Aidan, her former high school boyfriend, who’s now a local firefighter? Is there still a chance that she could have the perfect Christmas?
My review of Christmas Charms by Terri Wilson
This was a sweet, fun, easy read, which I devoured in just a few sittings. It has all the charm (see what I did there) of Hallmark’s ‘magical’ Christmas movies, with Ashley meeting a woman who looked just like Mrs Claus (could it have really been?), and a bracelet that seems to be making her dreams come true. Wilson has actually had a few novels adapted into Hallmark films, as well as writing books based on existing movies, and I felt like this was evident throughout this one. I could really picture it as I read, and have to admit I did get swept up in the cosy romantic vibes and Christmas magic.
In terms of tropes, this one features a terrible ex, a return home from the city, forced proximity (thanks to a snow storm) and a second chance at first love. As mentioned above, there is also a bit of unexplainable ‘is it magic?’ AND was that actually Mrs Claus. Christmas Charms doesn’t take itself too seriously, leaning right into all of those cheesy festive romance vibes, and I was here for it. I think this would be a great read for anyone who loves a Hallmark Christmas movie and has been thinking about making the jump to the same sorts of stories in books.
Let me know in the comments if you’ve read this one, or plan to, or if you also love a magical twist to your festive romance!
