Currently reading:: The Briar Book of the Dead by A.G. Slatter

    February 7, 2024 /

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a bit of a fangirl for A. G. Slatter‘s writing – it’s just so gothic and creepy and fantastic in exactly the way that I love. I’ve reviewed her previous two novels here (All the Murmuring Bones) and here (The Path of Thorns) – and you’ll see if you follow the links that I absolutely adored both. Obviously I was thrilled to discover there was a third book on the way, set in this same world (and even more when I spotted on Slatter’s website that number 4 is in the works too!). The Briar Book of the Dead is one of my…

    December 27, 2023 /

New books hit the shelves pretty much every week, but some weeks seem to be bigger than others. Over the past few months as I’ve started to have an eye on new releases for January 2024, I noticed more than a few titles I’m super keen for were coming out on 3 January. I thought I’d share them here in case you’re looking for some summer beach reads, or perhaps have gift voucher to use at your favourite local bookshop. Check out my list below of 8 new books I’m excited to see released next week. Love, Just In by Natalie Murray Sydney TV news reporter Josie Larsen is approaching…

Review: The Drover’s Brother Comes for Christmas by Darry Fraser

    November 27, 2023 /

What is Darry Fraser’s The Drover’s Brother Comes for Christmas about? It’s 1890. Lizzie Naylor’s life is working in her grumpy father’s store in Munyup, trying to bring up her six-year-old daughter, Alice, who’s hellbent on finding herself a father. Christmas is nearing, and tempers are fraught, especially when mysterious Mr Nicholas is back with his pesky sidekick, Alf. Or Elf, as Alice calls him. And Elf is just about to make another big mistake. Mack Miller has returned to the district to make peace with his brother, Shep. He’s weary of the life he’s led, the loss he’s experienced. He’s longed for home for a while, but the family…

Review :: Love Match by Clare Fletcher

    October 11, 2023 /

I do love spotting Aussie romance books on the shelves, and when I heard Clare Fletcher had a new rural romcom on the way I couldn’t wait to get my hands (eyes) on it! Love Match picks up right where Fletcher’s debut novel Five Bush Weddings left us, but this time we’re following the stories of minor characters from that book – Sarah Childs (who we saw Johnno West leave for Stevie in Five Bush Weddings) and Mabel Peters (aka the Bush Telegraph). I have to admit I’m an absolute sucker for a book that returns me to a familiar setting but with an emphasis on different characters. Check out…

Review :: Sit, Stay, Love by Amy Hutton

    September 4, 2023 /

I love getting my hands on a new Aussie romcom novel and today I’m sharing my thoughts on a recent release by local author Amy Hutton. What is Amy Hutton’s Sit, Stay, Love about? Sera loves owning a pet shelter – even if it’s often tricky to make ends meet, and her mother thinks she’s wasting her life. Thankfully, she can always rely on her steadfast best friend, Toby, who just happens to be the local vet. And then famous actor Ethan James enters the scene. After Sera ‘saves’ Ethan from a friendly German Shepherd, he confesses to a terrible fear of dogs. A canine co-star is all that stands…

Behind the scenes with Aussie author Sophie Green

    August 14, 2023 /

I first came across Australian author Sophie Green when I was lucky enough to receive a copy of her debut novel The Inaugural Meeting of the Fairvale Ladies Book Club for review in 2017, and she immediately became a ‘must-buy’ author for me. Green’s fifth novel, Weekends with the Sunshine Gardening Society was released recently (I loved it – you can check out my review here) and today I’m delighted to be able to share a little peek behind the scenes of Green’s writing and inspiration through a Q&A. Big thanks to Hachette and Benson PR! In a sentence, please tell us what Weekends with the Sunshine Gardening Society is…

Review :: The Wild One by Janet Gover

    August 1, 2023 /

Last year I read Janet Gover’s Christmas at Coorah Creek and loved it so much that I vowed to read more of the Coorah Creek series. The perfect opportunity came up when I spotted The Wild One on NetGalley a little while ago. This is the second book in the Coorah Creek series – I think it is the kind of series where it might be nice but certainly isn’t necessary to read the books in order (I’ve now read book 3, followed by book 2 and loved them both). It was a joy to revisit this rural community – scroll down for my full review. What is Janet Gover’s…

Review :: Weekends with the Sunshine Gardening Society by Sophie Green

    July 31, 2023 /

If you’ve ever asked me for a book recommendation, chances are I’ve recommended Sophie Green’s novels to you. I just get along so well with her writing style, and I love the way she brings together women of different ages, and from different backgrounds, into friendships that feel real and not contrived. I’m always thrilled when she announces she has a new book on the way, so I jumped at the chance to get my hands on an early copy of her latest title, Weekends with the Sunshine Gardening Society, which came out last week. What is Sophie Green’s Weekends with the Sunshine Gardening Society about? Noosa Heads, 1987: Newly divorced Cynthia has…

    July 26, 2023 /

I don’t think it is any secret around here that I love Sophie Green’s books – I’ve raved about them plenty in the past. So naturally I was excited when it was announced that she had a new book coming out again this year, and thrilled when I was invited to be part of a blog/bookstagram tour to celebrate the new release – Weekends with the Sunshine Gardening Society. Today is release day and I’m sharing a quick peek at the book – that stunning cover and the synopsis below – ahead of my review which will be here on Monday 31 July you can see here. Then, on 14…

Review :: Can I Steal You for a Second by Jodi McAlister

    May 7, 2023 /

Fun romcom reads are all over the place at the moment and I feel like the overwhelming majority of them are from the US, so I always have my eye out for Aussie romance books. I loved Jodi McAlister’s Here for the Right Reasons when I read it last year so I was thrilled when I found out we were getting a sequel! I devoured Can I Steal You for a Second? as soon as I could get my hands on a copy – read on below for my review! Synopsis of Jodi McAlister’s Can I Steal You for a Second? Mandie Mitchell will do anything to get over her…

I read @laurenkeeganwriter’s ALL THE BEES IN THE H I read @laurenkeeganwriter’s ALL THE BEES IN THE HOLLOWS 🐝 last weekend - and loved it! It was the perfect novel to take on my bus trip to Melbourne. I enjoy historical fiction novels so much (especially when they centre around the stories of women) and I find Lauren’s writing both incredibly beautiful and super immersive - I felt like part of the small community the book is set within and was completely caught up in the story. All the Bees in the Hollows is Lauren’s debut novel - I also adored her second book, The Woman in the Seal Skin, which I read earlier this year!
I can’t wait to see what she writes next 🤩🐝🦭

🐝 All the Bees in the Hollows by @laurenkeeganwriter
💫 Time Travel for Beginners by @jaclynmoriarty
🧊 Under Story by @chloekbenjamin

Are three books too many for a three-day trip? In my defense, I has 8 hours of bus travel on Friday, and was part through Time Travel already - I finished right on the halfway mark of the bus ride (adored it - everyone MUST read) and read most of All the Bees in the Hollows before I arrived. Then I made decent progress on Under Story while I waited for my flight!

How many books do you pack for a weekend away?
