Review :: The Dress by E.R. Cullen

    May 22, 2023 /

I've been loving romance novels lately and when E.R. Cullen's debut novel The Dress came across my radar I just had a feeling that it was going to hit the spot - small town setting and a sewing focus - what's not to love? Turns out I was right and I loved this book and its characters from cover to cover. Check out the synopsis below, then read on for a bit more info on what I loved about this sweet story.

#loveozya :: Deep Water by Sarah Epstein

    March 11, 2023 /

March and April were brilliant months for new releases in 2020. One of my most anticipated books for the year – Sarah Epstein’s Deep Water was originally released in April of that year and has now been rereleased by Fourteen Press. I read Deep Water right before it was first released absolutely ADORED it! I loved Sarah’s debut – Small Spaces (my review is here) – and I think this one is just as wonderful. I wanted to update my post to include images of the stunning new cover on this edition – my review remains unchanged and you can read it below. What is Sarah Epstein’s Deep Water about? Henry Weaver is missing.Three…

Review :: The Keepsake by Julie Brooks

    March 8, 2023 /

If you’ve been here before you might know that I’m a sucker for a book that brings together stories from different timelines, so I was super excited to read Julie Brooks’ new novel, The Keepsake. The team at Hachette kindly sent me an early copy for review – check out my thoughts below. What is Julie Brooks’ The Keepsake about? 1832: The morning after her father’s funeral, Prudence Merryfield wakes to the liberating thought that this is the first day of her new life. At thirty-five and unmarried, she is now mistress of her own fate. But a cruel revelation at the reading of her father’s will forces Prudence to…

LoveOzYA :: Nightbirds by Kate J Armstrong

    March 3, 2023 /

One of the debut Aussie YA novels I’ve most been looking forward to in 2023 is KAte J Armstrong’s Nightbirds (I featured it in this post about some of the upcoming LoveOzYA books I’m excited about). I was thrilled when the team at Allen & Unwin sent me an early copy to consider for review and have been looking forward to sharing my thoughts about it here. Read on below to find out more. What is Kate J Armstrong’s Nightbirds about? Magic may be illegal in Simta, but you can find it if you know which whispers to heed. None as tantalising as the ones about the Nightbirds, Simta’s best…

Review :: The Heroines by Laura Shepperson

    February 25, 2023 /

In January I posted a little preview of some of the new novels based on Greek myths being released in the next few months that I’m looking forward to reading. When Tandem Collective Global announced they were running a readalong in Australia for The Heroines by Laura Shepperson it felt like a sign and I was thrilled to be included. Wait, what is a Tandem Collective Global readalong? The Tandem Collective readalongs are pretty fun. The team at Tandem organise for the publisher (in this case Hachette Australia) to send a copy of the book (thank you!) and they also set some guidelines for which pages to read each day…

LoveOzYA :: The Cult of Romance

    January 19, 2023 /

Sarah Ayoub is one of my favourite writers of contemporary Australian YA, and I jumped at the chance to read her latest novel, The Cult of Romance, when it was released last year. I loved it and since then it has become one of the books I most often, and most widely, recommend. Check out my review below to find out why. What is The Cult of Romance about? Natalie is living proof that love is a scam. She’s traumatised by her parents’ failed marriage and overwhelmed by her grandmother’s expectations of good Lebanese girls — marriage, motherhood and exceptional tabouli-making skills. When her best friend decides to get hitched…

    January 4, 2023 /

I love to read Australian historical fiction and two of my absolute favourite books in this genre are Alison Stuart’s Maiden Creek books, The Postmistress and The Goldminer’s Sister. I knew there was a third book coming so I’ve been keeping an eye out and when The Homecoming was announced for release this month it immediately made it onto my list of most anticipated 2023 releases. The team at Harper Collins kindly sent me an early copy and I’ve been looking forward to sharing my thoughts with you. Check out the synopsis then read on below for my review. Review :: Heart of Flame by Kate Schumacher

    November 15, 2022 /

In the middle of the year I had the pleasure of being part of a book tour for Aussie indie author Kate Schumacher’s gorgeous adult fantasy novel Shadow of Fire. This was the first book in Schumacher’s The Fires of Aileryan duology, and I’ve been looking forward to book two ever since. Heart of Flame was released this week and excited to share my thoughts on it with you today! What is Kate Schumacher’s Heart of Flame about? With the Queen of Merawuld confined to her bed and the city of Tyllcarric in the iron grasp of the High Mage, war is closing in on all horizons for Ash and…

Christmas :: The Christmas Trip by Sandy Barker

    November 10, 2022 /

I’ve always got my eyes peeled for Aussie Christmas book and Sandy Barker’s 2020 release – The Christmas Swap – is a firm favourite festive read of mine, so of course I was absolutely delighted to that a sequel was coming out this year! The Christmas Trip revisits the same couples we fell in love with in The Christmas Swap, one year on from the events of that book. What is Sandy Barker’s The Christmas Trip about? It’s a year on and our three May Ladies are all loved up but still living worlds apart. Chloe has had a whirlwind year amongst the glitz, glamour (and demanding work) of Hollywood.…

Review :: The Wintrish Girl by Melanie La’Brooy

    November 9, 2022 /

I’m reading loads of kids’ fantasy books at the moment and absolutely loving them. I posted a little preview of The Wintrish Girl by Melanie La’Brooy when i was reading it a few weeks ago and tonight I’m sharing my review. What is Melanie La’Brooy’s The Wintrish Girl about? On Talisman Day in the Empire of Arylia, every child receives an object that gives them special powers and reveals their destiny. Every child except for the Wintrish girl, Penn, that is. All she has ever wanted is the impossible: to own a Talisman and return to her home in Midwinter to find her true family. But Penn’s trapped – doomed…

It was the perfect novel to take on my bus trip to Melbourne. I enjoy historical fiction novels so much (especially when they centre around the stories of women) and I find Lauren’s writing both incredibly beautiful and super immersive - I felt like part of the small community the book is set within and was completely caught up in the story. All the Bees in the Hollows is Lauren’s debut novel - I also adored her second book, The Woman in the Seal Skin, which I read earlier this year!
I can’t wait to see what she writes next 🤩🐝🦭

🐝 All the Bees in the Hollows by @laurenkeeganwriter
💫 Time Travel for Beginners by @jaclynmoriarty
🧊 Under Story by @chloekbenjamin

Are three books too many for a three-day trip? In my defense, I has 8 hours of bus travel on Friday, and was part through Time Travel already - I finished right on the halfway mark of the bus ride (adored it - everyone MUST read) and read most of All the Bees in the Hollows before I arrived. Then I made decent progress on Under Story while I waited for my flight!

How many books do you pack for a weekend away?
