Review: Ghosted by Amy Hutton
Amy Hutton‘s previous two romcom novels, Sit, Stay, Love and Love from Scratch, are firm favourites of mine, so when I heard she was serving us up another swoony story, and this time with a spooky twist, I was onboard immediately. GHOSTED came out at the start of the month and I adored it – check out my review below the publisher’s synopsis.
What is Amy Hutton’s Ghosted about?
Banishing vengeful spirits from the mortal realm is Holly’s day job, but she’s never had to ghost anyone before – until Callum breaks her heart, making her wish she could exorcise her ex from her life.
It’s been two years since professional ghost-whisperer Holly Daniels ghosted Callum Jefferies — successful paranormal podcast host, unsuccessful boyfriend. So when he reaches out asking for her help investigating the infamous East Mill haunted house, Holly is hesitant to get involved, despite his infuriating charm. But the mysterious house is calling to her, and she can’t resist.
When they arrive in East Mill and take up adjoining rooms at a rundown guesthouse, something in the air stirs up old feelings. If only the local ghosts would give Holly some peace and quiet to work out what those feelings are…
As their investigation unfolds, Holly and Callum unearth a string of suspicious deaths linked to the house, one of which is bound up with East Mill’s very own seventeenth-century witch trials.
But Callum is hiding something, and with vengeful spirits around every corner, Holly realises she will have to put her life — and her psychic powers — on the line if she and Callum are going to get out of East Mill alive.
My review of GHOSTED
Like I said at the top, I adored this one – it’s my new fave of Amy books (a tall order, since I loved the previous ones too). The banter in this book is so perfect, I loved Holly and Callum and seeing them work through their previous issues and have their second chance together was gorgeous. Amy manages to build tension without making either character terrible, but also without introducing obstacles that feel too contrived.
Something I didn’t expect going into Ghosted, and that was a great surprise, was how tense the ghosty, paranormal bits were! I was genuinely creeped out in some parts, and thought these bits were just as spooky as the swoony bits were sexy. About two thirds of the way I started thinking about how much I hope Amy writes more in the vein because I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the characters, and that perfect spooky, swoony vibe!
I definitely recommend Ghosted for romcom lovers – it has cemented Amy Hutton as a must read romance writer for me!
Let me know in the comments if you check this one out!
