I love the entire process, from tracking down patterns to collecting the colours, and the stitching itself providing a kind of meditation with the repetition of the stitches. We’ve been inspired to get into cross stitch in particular by lovely Mel from A Cosy Reader Designs, who regularly streams her cross stitching projects on her Twitch channel Hey It’s Mel B. Let me…

    Friday Favourites :: 21 May

    May 21, 2021 /

    I’m really not sure where this week went! I feel like it was the weekend and here we are at Friday again! I’ve just started working two of my three days back in the office again, and I think maybe that extra day out of the house threw me. My favourite thing this week is also related to something that got me out of the house this week – my first watercolour class on Wednesday! I’ve been playing with watercolours for a little while now, and got a lovely little set for my birthday, and when I saw a local arts centre had a Wednesday morning class I couldn’t resist…

I read @laurenkeeganwriter’s ALL THE BEES IN THE H I read @laurenkeeganwriter’s ALL THE BEES IN THE HOLLOWS 🐝 last weekend - and loved it! It was the perfect novel to take on my bus trip to Melbourne. I enjoy historical fiction novels so much (especially when they centre around the stories of women) and I find Lauren’s writing both incredibly beautiful and super immersive - I felt like part of the small community the book is set within and was completely caught up in the story. All the Bees in the Hollows is Lauren’s debut novel - I also adored her second book, The Woman in the Seal Skin, which I read earlier this year!
I can’t wait to see what she writes next 🤩🐝🦭
Spending the weekend in Melbourne meant I was face Spending the weekend in Melbourne meant I was faced with the age old dilemma of how many books to pack. I was away from Friday morning to Sunday night and took these three:
🐝 All the Bees in the Hollows by @laurenkeeganwriter
💫 Time Travel for Beginners by @jaclynmoriarty
🧊 Under Story by @chloekbenjamin

Are three books too many for a three-day trip? In my defense, I has 8 hours of bus travel on Friday, and was part through Time Travel already - I finished right on the halfway mark of the bus ride (adored it - everyone MUST read) and read most of All the Bees in the Hollows before I arrived. Then I made decent progress on Under Story while I waited for my flight!

How many books do you pack for a weekend away?
