#LOVEOZYA Book Review: DARK HEIR by C.S. Pascat

I’ve been busting for the release of Dark Heir since the moment I finished Dark Rise. I did a reread of Dark Rise to be ready for the sequel, and honestly I don’t understand why more people aren’t talking about this series! It’s just so perfect! I don’t want to share more about Dark Heir here because of spoilers, but you can find out more here, and I have shared the synopsis of Dark Rise below – I recommend everyone pick this up ASAP and then come back and let me know so we can talk about it!

Synopsis of Dark Rise by C.S. Pascat

The ancient world of magic is no more. Its heroes are dead, its halls are ruins, and its great battles between Light and Dark are forgotten. Only the Stewards remember. For centuries they have kept vigil, sworn to protect humanity if the Dark King ever returns.

Sixteen-year-old dock boy Will is on the run in London, pursued by the men who killed his mother. When an old servant urges him to seek out the Stewards, Will is ushered into a secret world, where he must train to fight for the Light in the oncoming war.

As the Dark King’s return looms, reborn warriors begin to draw battle lines. But when the young descendants of Light and Dark step into their destined roles, old allegiances, old enmities and old flames are awakened. Will must stand with the last heroes of the Light to prevent the calamity that destroyed their world from returning to destroy his own.

My review of Dark Heir

I remember being completely mind-blown and obsessed when I read Dark Rise, and honestly the sequel Dark Heir did not disappoint. The vibe is a bit different in this one because we are seeing everything playout in an established world, so there is less world building needed to support the story, but I feel like that really gave space for the characters and their relationships to grow. I loved being back in this world and seeing how everything unfolded, and the plot continued to have me guessing and gasping all the way through. The ending was incredible – I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Big thanks to the team at Allen & Unwin who provided a copy for me to review.
