Mailbox Monday :: 2 October

I’m back for another round of mailbox Monday (thanks to the host over here – make sure you check them out) and since today marks exactly 12 weeks until Christmas I figured it’s the perfect opportunity to share this book that arrived in my post box last week.

A Country Vet Christmas is a collection of short festive stories set in rural Australia and written by some of our fabulous local ruro authors. Harper Collins Publishers Australia (through their imprint HQ Fiction) release a compilation like this each year and I really look forward to spotting them at the shops – it’s really a sign that the festive season is almost upon us!

Now, I know 12 weeks feels like a long time away but if you think about it, if you start ‘the Christmas season’ at the beginning of December that’s only about 7.5 weeks away, and if you want to make sure you get your hands on festive reads it’s not a terrible idea to start keeping an eye out for them now.

A Country Vet Christmas is out this week, and I’ve popped the synopses of this year’s stories below. I’ll be back in a few weeks to review this one – in the meantime you can check out some previous posts where I’ve talked about these collections here, here, here, and here.

Thanks again to the hosts of the Mailbox Monday meme – please do pop over and check out what everyone else has received as book mail this week.

Let me know in the comments whether you like to read Christmassy books, and if so when do you start reading, or planning your tbr?

*A Country Vet Christmas*

Snowy Mountains Mistletoe by Alissa Callen: After losing his fiancee, orthopaedic vet Trent has found peace in small town Bundilla. But when a smart-talking city girl goes out of her way to avoid him and all things festive, perhaps this holiday season it’s time to give his heart a second chance.

The Countdown to Christmas by Penelope Janu: For small-town vet Amber, Christmas is everything money can’t buy. For infuriatingly attractive big-city blow-in Jasper, it’s simply a season of commerce. But when Jasper joins the fight to save the town’s medical centre – and promises to take Christmas to heart – Amber is forced to take stock. Could Jasper be all her Christmases come at once?

A Cattle Dog for Christmas by Stella Quinn: Travelling vet Elliot comes to Hanrahan as a Christmas locum. If hardworking supermum Sandy had time for a bloke (which she doesn’t) she’d be choosing a keeper, not some charming rogue who has a lifelong habit of never sticking around. But a seemingly untrainable cattle dog just might bring them together.

A Country Music Christmas by Lily Malone: No one in the small town of Chalk Hill would know that the new vet in town is actually a famous country music star. Jolene has spent most of her life trying to outrun scandal, but if she keeps running this Christmas, will she lose her chance for love?

A Christmas to Remember by Pamela Cook: When runaway vet Darcy returns to Australia to see her aging parents, she has no intention of staying, but a dangerous fire threatening the town and the strangely charismatic wildlife refuge director Chad have her thinking twice.
