Friday Favourites :: 26 August

Happy Book week everyone! I’ve had such a nice week celebrating children’s books, starting with the CBCA award announcements last Friday which I watched live on the CBCA YouTube page here – I may have had a little tear or two watching the amazing writers and illustrators find out their books had won! You can see the full list of winners here.

I always love seeing people share book week costumes – either their finished costumes or their tips about how to create them. Some of my favourites this year were the Worst Week Ever and Llamas in Pyjamas ideas on Matt Cosgrove’s website, the Real Pigeons costume my friend Lucy from Love Four Reading shared in this reel, and this idea for a costume inspired by Winston and the Indoor Cat and this reel featuring books that celebrate being yourself, for kids who just aren’t into dressing up, both from lovely Shannon from Oh Creative Day (who happens to have her own book out recently – I recommend taking a look here).

My 8yr old has recently read and loved Louie Stowell’s Loki: A Bad God’s Guide to… books, in which Loki is sent to Earth as a 12 year old boy, and she happily went dressed as one of Loki’s classmates Valerie. It was such gorgeous weather the morning of the parade, and just such a joy to be back on school grounds and for such a fun event.

In other, non-book week, news, I can’t remember whether I’ve mentioned that I have been trying to do a bit more baking at home for things to have with coffee or pop in my daughter’s lunchbox. This week I made the Play Bake Smile easy chocolate slice and stem ginger shortbread biscuits from this recipe – both are firm favourites and didn’t let us down.

Finally, I just wanted to give a shout out to my friend Anne, who launched her newly renovated website recently – it looks so good and I love her reviews, so I would definitely recommend checking it out! You can find Anne at Immersed in Books.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend and week ahead!
