Sunday Stack :: Currently Reading

I think I’ve mentioned a few times recently that I’m in a pretty good reading routine at the moment, but what I haven’t talked about is that while I’m managing to read most days, I’m not doing the best at sticking with one book at a time haha.

It isn’t that I’m not enjoying what I’m reading – all three of the books here are great so far, I just think I’m feeling a bit restless and that translating into having trouble sticking with one book at a time. Let me tell you a bit more about each of the books in cycling through right now (all three of these were kindly sent by their publishers).

The Riviera House – by Natasha Lester (out now from Hachette)

Paris, 1939 While working at the Louvre, Eliane Dufort falls for talented painter Xavier. But when the Nazis occupy the city, Xavier leaves for England and Eliane must send her sisters to the country. Broken-hearted, she finds herself working with the mysterious Rose Valland on a dangerous secret mission for the French Resistance: to record all the priceless national treasures the Germans are stealing.

She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan (out now from Pan Macmillan)

In a famine-stricken village on a dusty plain, a seer shows two children their fates. For a family’s eighth-born son, there’s greatness. For the second daughter, nothing.

Dark Rise by C.S. Pascat (out 28 Sept from Allen & Unwin)

The ancient world of magic is no more. Its heroes are dead, its halls are ruins, and its great battles between Light and Dark are forgotten. Only the Stewards remember. For centuries they have kept vigil, sworn to protect humanity if the Dark King ever returns.

Sixteen-year-old dock boy Will is on the run in London, pursued by the men who killed his mother. When an old servant urges him to seek out the Stewards, Will is ushered into a secret world, where he must train to fight for the Light in the oncoming war.

As the Dark King’s return looms, reborn warriors begin to draw battle lines. But when the young descendants of Light and Dark step into their destined roles, old allegiances, old enmities and old flames are awakened. Will must stand with the last heroes of the Light to prevent the calamity that destroyed their world from returning to destroy his own.

I’d love to know what you’ve been reading!
