Currently Reading :: The Rose Daughter :: Maria Lewis

I thought I’d pop in today to share a little update on my current read, The Rose Daughter by Maria Lewis.
I was soooo excited when this one arrived in the mail from Hachette! I absolutely adored the other book I have read from Lewis’ Supernatural Sisters series (you can see my review of The Wailing Woman here) and about a quarter of the way in The Rose Daughter is shaping up to be just as good.

I love Lewis’ writing style – there is something that feels really relaxed and easy about it to me. The world/myth building is fantastic – there is such a great range of characters who feel like individuals to me, no one feels like a stereotype.

The books in the series are all connected – I have only read The Wailing Woman so far (I know! There are five others! So many books, so little time!), but I didn’t feel like I has missed any of the background or had trouble keeping up with what was going on. I feel like these are probably they kinds of books that can be read as companions to each other, rather than necessarily needing to be read in order (noting that this might mean some spoilers). The Rose Daughter centres around the story of Dreckly Jones, who I had ‘meet’ briefly in The Wailing Woman.

This is one of those books where I’m torn between wanting to stay up reading for 10 hours straight but also wanting to savour each page! It’s also making me more keen than ever to read the other books in this series!

I’ll be back in the next week or so with a proper review – in the meantime you can check out The Rose Daughter on Goodreads, and find out more about Maria Lewis and her work on her website here.

Let me know in the comments what you’re reading this week!

    This cover is stunning.
Are they companion novels? Because I’m one of those people that needs to read a series in order.
But I need to put this on my wish list regardless.
I’m glad you’re enjoying it, Bron!

They are companions so you could read in any order, but I’m the same and would probably pick them up in order if I was starting fresh. I think just one of them is YA (It Came from the Deep – I THINK) and the others are adult.
