KIDLIT :: THIS GIRL CAN! :: CORI BROOKE & KATIE ALEXANDER
This girl can be anything.
A pilot. A firefighter. A film director.
Showing girls all the very many things they can be when they grow up, this book is a playful, inclusive romp through the world of jobs and vocations.
I have a special guest reviewer on the blog today to talk about THIS GIRL CAN by Cori Brooke and Katie Alexander – my 6 (almost 7) year old daughter Amelia. Here is what she has to say about this beautiful book:
I like this book because.
1: it has a lot of inspiration for little girls for when they grow up.
2: it is very nice.
3: the girls are really different and follow their hearts.

I really have to agree with Amelia – both of This Girl Can! and its companion This Boy Can! are really are very nice. I’m afraid my photos don’t do justice to the amazing illustrations. They are bright and fun and feature a diverse bunch of kids and adults. The text is lovely – it is perfect for reading aloud, and the message of following your heart shines through in both books. They are also great conversation starters/triggers for imaginative/role play. After we read This Girl Can! you can see in the first photo Amelia was keen to pull out her lego friends and see which kinds of jobs she could give them. I think both of these would make brilliant gifts for the kids in your life.
Big thanks to Five Mile press for sending these to us!
