Author Chat :: Summer Reading :: Reece Carter
You know I love any excuse to have writers here on the blog for a chat, and since I’ve been keeping an eye out for middlegrade reads to keep my newly 8 year old busy over summer I thought it would be fun to talk to a few fellow middlegrade readers about their summer reading habits and get a few recommendations at the same time. Today I have the pleasure of welcoming Reece Carter here for a chat. Reece is a Sydney-based writer – his debut middlegrade fantasy novel will be released later this year. Check out our chat below… Hey Reece! Thanks so much for joining me on BookishBron.com…

Book Stack :: Recommendations
Lovely author Karen Ginnane shouted out so many great Aussie authors and books in our Q&A earlier this week that I thought I’d share a bit more about each title. Check out the synopsis for each book below, and click the titles to go to the Goodreads page, starting with Karen’s own book, When Days Tilt. Time Catchers: When Days Tilt by Karen GinnaneFollow 14-year-old Ava, a reluctant watchmaking apprentice in 1858 London – the biggest city the world has ever seen. It’s fast, furious and often brutal. The latest terror is that people are disappearing into thin air – when they return, they are damaged. Their souls are torn. One day…

Sunday Stack :: Recs for a Friend
Recently a lovely friend of mine was in a bit of a reading slump and asked if I could recommend some books I thought she’d like. While our reading tastes don’t exactly align there is a significant crossover, and it was quite fun to pull a mini stack from my shelves for her to chose from. I was looking for contemporary or historical fiction – no speculative fiction – with great characters but also plot driven story, and preferably on the darkish side. And here’s the stack I came up with. I haven’t read all of these, but was pretty confident they would hit the mark. Click on the titles…

My 5-star reads of 2017
I wasn’t really planning on doing a ‘my top 10 books of 2017’ or whatever, but I was having a play with the goodreads ‘your year in books’ and was surprised by how many books I gave five-star reviews to last year, so I thought I’d share them here. Interestingly, these aren’t necessarily the books I would choose if I was to pick my 10 best/favourite books from last year looking back from now. The Hate Race :: Maxine Beneba Clarke This was my book of the year – the Most Important book I read in 2017, and the number one book I would make everyone read if I could. Maxine Beneba…

Five #loveozya releases I can’t wait to read in 2018
Firstly, I’d like to apologise for the not so catchy title of this post haha – it’s the week between Christmas and New Year, and my brain barely even knows which day it is, let alone how to word eloquently haha.But, anyway, I’ve been starting to try and keep track of the new #loveozya releases on their way in 2018, and I thought it would be fun to share five that I am especially excited to get my hands – and eyes – on in the new year.. Graevale by Lynette Noni :: 1 Feb from Pantera PressGraevale is the fourth book in Lynette Noni’s Medoran Chronicles, about a girl called Alex who finds herself accidentally…

Saturday stack :: #loveozya gift recs
I’m a day early with my book stack this week, because I wanted to share some #loveozya books that I think would make perfect gifts for the readers in your lives, just in case anyone is doing some (very) last minute shopping! So, here are my top 3… Begin, End, Begin – Edited by Danielle Binks This is a fantastic anthology of #loveozya short stories from a bunch of our best authors – there is so much variety in the stories that there is something for everyone in here! Unearthed – Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner This is the first book in a series which is being described as Lara Croft meets…

Read Harder Challenge update
Yesterday I started reading Katie Fforde’s new Christmas short story collection, The Christmas Stocking and Other Stories. I picked this up not only because I’m all about the festive reads at the moment, but also because it does double duty by ticking off one of my outstanding tasks for the Book Riot Read Harder Challenge – Read a collection of stories by a woman. And of course being able to check one more off my list is making me feel like I might actually be able to finish the challenge (because in my future planning imagination I can read at least 3 times quicker than in real life lol). So far I…

#LoveOzYABloggers :: ‘series’
After the #LoveOzYA session at the Canberra Writers Festival last week I spent a bit of time on the Love Oz YA website (so many cool resources over there!), and one of the things I came across was a fortnightly blog meme: #LoveOzYABloggers is hosted by #LoveOzYA, a community led organisation dedicated to promoting Australian young adult literature. Keep up to date with all new Aussie YA releases with their monthly newsletter, or find out what’s happening with News and Events, or submit your own! I love sharing (both giving and receiving!) book recommendations, so this sounded like a lot of fun to join in with. This fortnight’s theme is ‘series’, and I thought I’d share…
