5-star favourites: My best reads of 2024

    January 1, 2025 /

I had such a good reading year in 2024. I feel like I read across my favourite genres and managed to get a bit of a mix of new and backlist, as well as books for review and other random reads I was interested in. I also did a bit of re-reading, which is something I don’t always feel like I get to do. I’ve been tracking my reading this year on The Storygraph and today I wanted to share a little round up of my favourite books of 2024, the 13 titles that the Storygraph tells me I’ve given 5 star ratings. Check them out below, and please let…

Books I’m buying for kids this year

    December 3, 2024 /

I’m sure it’s no surprise to hear that a good portion of the gifts I buy each year are books. This year I’m buying for two specific groups of kids – the just turned 10 to almost 11-year-old girls, and the fairly newly independently reading boys. I thought I’d share a couple of the titles I’ve picked out for them. For 10ish yr old girls: – The Audition by Maddie Ziegler My daughter has been watching Dance Moms and is going to love this:Twelve-year-old Harper McCoy has danced practically since she could walk, and she is making her mark as one of the top dancers at her studio. Until her…

    Mailbox Monday: 25 March

    March 25, 2024 /

It has been the looooongest time since I did a proper book mail share here, which is remiss of me since I’ve really been treated to some WONDERFUL books over the past little while. So, here is a little stack of some recent-ish additions to my shelves, kindly sent to me by the relevant publishers. Where Sleeping Girls Lie by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé This was a mistake, the voice in her head whispered. You should never have come…Sade Hussein is the new girl at the prestigious Alfred Nobel Academy. She has no idea what to expect of her mysterious new boarding school – an institution steeped in tradition and secrets. But…

8 Must-Read New Books Out on 03 January

    December 27, 2023 /

New books hit the shelves pretty much every week, but some weeks seem to be bigger than others. Over the past few months as I’ve started to have an eye on new releases for January 2024, I noticed more than a few titles I’m super keen for were coming out on 3 January. I thought I’d share them here in case you’re looking for some summer beach reads, or perhaps have gift voucher to use at your favourite local bookshop. Check out my list below of 8 new books I’m excited to see released next week. Love, Just In by Natalie Murray Sydney TV news reporter Josie Larsen is approaching…

    Mailbox Monday: 13 November

    November 13, 2023 /

Hello! Welcome to another Monday – I can’t believe this week marks the middle of November! The year has really flown by. Things feel like they speed up once we hit November here – the weather is warmer and we are out more and then the end of year/Christmas events start. I also feel like the bookmail has sped up over the past few weeks, as I try and think about gift guides and recommendations and summer reading. Today I’m joining some fellow bloggers over at Mailbox Monday and sharing four books that have arrived in my mailbox over the past week or so. These are all titles I’ve had…

    Mailbox Monday :: 25 September

    September 25, 2023 /

Over the weekend I came across the Mailbox Monday meme, which you can find hosted here. I love the idea of a regular check in to share the books that have been arriving in my mailbox. Today I’m sharing 6 titles that have arrived from publishers over the past few weeks – check out the synopsis for each below. The Scarlet Veil by Shelby Mahurin Six months have passed since Célie took her sacred vows and joined the ranks of the Chasseurs as their first huntswoman. With her fiancé, Jean Luc, as captain, she is determined to find her foothold in her new role and help protect Belterra. But whispers…

    Australian Indie Fantasy Books

    December 4, 2022 /

I have read a bunch of wonderful fantasy books by Australian indie authors this year, so I thought I’d do a little wrap up for you in case you need some awesome fantasy recs. Each of the books in this stack is the first in a series, and they all feature characters you’ll love in richly imagined worlds. I feel like indie books can make great gifts for readers, since they might be less likely to have seen them around and picked them up already. I’d also recommend any of these as fantastic summer reads or gifts for yourself! Check out the info below for details on each title. Six…

Book Stack :: Cbr Writers Festival 2022

    August 17, 2022 /

I’ve been going on about it a bit on social media, but I felt like my weekend at the Canberra Writers Festival deserves a proper post here as well, and what better than to share a gorgeous book stack. If I’m completely honest, I tend to find the program for the CWF fairly uninspiring – it feels like so much of the focus is on political journalism and memoir and nonfiction, and I’m so much more of a fiction reader. I do, though, love hearing people’s stories, and I am always so fascinated to hear from authors. So this year I decided to just pick a day and a venue…

5 Series I’m reading by Australian Fantasy Authors

    March 23, 2022 /

Ok, I’m a little bit late to the virtual party, but I’ve been browsing the prompts over at Meeghan Reads’ “Top 5 Tuesday” meme, and there are some fab ones I’d like to tackle even though they featured last month, or maybe even earlier. What caught my eye tonight was one from mid February – Top 5 series that I *still* haven’t finished. I’ve tweaked this a bit, partly because if I’m completely honest not finishing series is kind of an ongoing issue for me so there will be plenty of other series I could post about another time, but also we know I love an excuse to talk about…

    February 22, 2022 /

I can’t tell you how much it thrills me as a numbers nerd to have a date like 22-02-2022, and I figured with all the twos, what better time to talk duologies?! Today in my book stack I have two Aussie YA duologies – one I’ve read and loved, and another that I am halfway through (and loving!) and hoping to finish soon – find out more about each below! (I’m just going to share the synopsis for the first book in each series because spoilers!) HIVE/ROGUE by A.J. Betts I read this series as the books came out and I loved them so much! My daughter and I picked a pair of YA titles to earn our LYBD personal penguin 🐧📚 - I've been looking forward to getting my hands on @margot.mcgovern's Our Dark Unravelling, and my daughter spotted Augusta Pine Does not exist by Emily Lloyd-Jones which happens to have a cover that matches nicely with Margot's cover 💙💖
I hope you had a chance to get out to your fave book shop if you have one nearby - I'd love to hear if you were able to pick up a bookish treat for yourself too!
