Book haul :: Love Your Bookshop Day

    August 11, 2019 /

If you caught my post yesterday you might know how excited I was about Love Your Bookshop Day this year. Obviously there was no way I could visit my favourite bookshops without picking up a few new books, and today I wanted to share my very excellent haul. Despite the excitement I did manage to restrain myself and only buy books that were on my list – I’ve been looking forward to getting my hands on each of these! The Surprising Power of a Good Dumpling – Wai ChimThis brand new contemporary #loveozya is all over instagram at the moment, and I am only hearing great things. I can’t wait…

Sunday stack :: Lifeline Bookfair Haul

    February 11, 2018 /

The Lifeline Bookfair comes to Canberra three times a year, and I try to go along to at least two of the three – I mean, tables and tables of secondhad books for sale and proceeds to charity? What’s not to love? The Bookfair runs for the whole weekend, and if you go along on the Sunday afternoon you can take advantage of the ‘bag sale’ – where you pay $20 for as many books as you can fit in a standard supermarket bag. I split a bag with my partner and here’s what we had in there today: Because there are so many books, and because they are only…

    Canberra Writers Festival 2017

    August 27, 2017 /

If you follow me on Instagram (@bookishbron)  you’ll know I have just spent most of my weekend having a wonderfully bookish time at the Canberra Writers Festival. I went to four sessions, two on each day, and ate lunch in the sunshine yesterday while today it apparently snowed at lunchtime. Hello almost spring in Canberra haha.   While the festival is held at a bunch of venues across the city, all four sessions I attended were at the National Library of Australia. It is such a beautiful building, and in a perfect setting, it was a pleasure to spend the weekend there. The sun, the lake, the stained glass windows.…

    More library books

    July 12, 2017 /

We all know library holds have a habit of coming in packs, and since my July library loan post I’ve added three more to the stack!   What these three have in common, aside from being from the library, is that they all have such beautiful covers – some of my favourite’s on books I’ve read so far this year!   I’ve almost finished The Bear and the Nightingale, and am loving it! Have you read any of these? And do you have a favourite cover this year? Tell me about it in the comments!  Xo Bron

    May library books

    May 7, 2017 /

What is it with library holds all coming in at the same time? Some of these I’ve had on hold since last December, maybe even earlier! And then, just when I was feeling smug for having only one book out, a couple came in at once (and I picked up a few extras too!)   One of the books in the stack (The Secret Keeper) I have read (I loved it!) and it will go back to the library tomorrow – I also have Sidekicks by Wil Kostakis waiting for me to pick up. Goodwood and The Atomic Weight of Love I put holds on ages ago, Cooper Bartholomew I grabbed straight from a friend who was returning…

    April library books

    April 12, 2017 /

I love my library! For a long time I didn’t use it at all, but as ebook prices have gone up and I’ve become more interested in reading a lot of new releases, my library membership has been invaluable . It’s so user friendly – I love that I can go online and request a book from any branch across the ACT and it will be waiting for me next time I pop into my local. In fact, sometimes it’s too easy to put books on hold and I end up with many coming all at once!    In April I’ve had a reasonably large stack of library books, but…

I had a little practice run and, though the Hyatt hightea will be lusher than this I can confirm this gorgeous book pairs perfectly with scones and a cuppa!
Tickets for this event we're almost all snapped up, last I heard, but there is plenty of bookish fun to be had across the whole weekend at the festival (including some great events on Friday night!) so pop over and check the program if you haven't already booked! 📚

We spent a lovely morning in the sunshine outside @thebookcowkingston for a gorgeous event celebrating @gabrielletozer's latest picture book TINY GOOD THINGS ✨💜 It is such a beautiful book, and it was also a wonderful excuse to catch up with loads of friends, including @emmagreyauthor and @aussie_kids_books - both of whom I managed to snap here.
My daughter and I picked a pair of YA titles to earn our LYBD personal penguin 🐧📚 - I've been looking forward to getting my hands on @margot.mcgovern's Our Dark Unravelling, and my daughter spotted Augusta Pine Does not exist by Emily Lloyd-Jones which happens to have a cover that matches nicely with Margot's cover 💙💖
I hope you had a chance to get out to your fave book shop if you have one nearby - I'd love to hear if you were able to pick up a bookish treat for yourself too!
