#kidlit :: Influential Childhood Books
This week I’ve started reading Enid Blyton’s Faraway Tree series with my four-year-old and we are loving it so much! So I though this would be a good chance to catch up on a Bookish Bloggers Unite blog topic I missed a few weeks ago, when everyone shared some influential books from their childhood. I absolutely adored Enid Blyton’s books as a child – all the way from the stories about toys through the The Faraway Tree and The Wishing Chair, running away with Mr Galliano’s Circus, the adventures and sleuthing of the Secret Seven and Famous Five, and, of course, terms and terms at Mallory Towers and St Claire’s.…

#BookishBloggersUnite :: Authors I’d like to meet
It has been a little while since I participated in the Bookish Bloggers Unite meme, but this week I’m hosting (and running a little late – I have no idea what happened to the few days!). Bookish Bloggers Unite is a weekly meme we started as a place to talk about our favourite books, TBR piles, and to share the love about our reading lives. We have a different host each week, and every one is invited to sign up to the linky and join in! After a couple of book events in the past few weeks I got to thinking about authors I’d really like to meet. I’m pretty…

#BookishBloggersUnite :: Best Literary Opening Lines
Hello! Happy Sunday!This week’s #BookishBloggersUnite is being hosted by Tina from TBR, etc, and the theme is ‘Best Literary Opening Lines. This was a tricky one for me! I love beautiful language and clever passages in books, but have absolutely zero memory for literary quotes – most of the ones that came to mind were because they are well known as quotes, rather than from my own reading of the books. After a bit of thinking (and maybe a quick flick through some of the books on my shelves) I did come up with one…The Raven Boys – Maggie Stiefvater I adore this entire series, and it had me intrigued…

The start of April means we are already a quarter of the way through the year! The host for the week was Laura from That Library Lady – make sure you pop over and check out her blog and post for everyone’s first quarter check-ins! So, here are a few highlights from my year so far…As of the end of March, I’d read 26 books so far this year – 6 in January, 12 in February, and 8 in…

#BookishBloggersUnite :: Books for high school graduates
What is it with March? I feel like I’m at least a week behind in my life all of a sudden! Someone told me that they think March is kind of like the Monday of months, and everyone I’ve talked to about it since has agreed. In any case, here I am – a week since my last post – and today I’m joining in with last weekend’s #BookishBloggersUnite prompt, hosted this time by Katy at the Bookish Cronk, which was to talk about books you would give as gifts to high school graduates. Make sure you pop over to Katy’s post to check out the other responses. One book…

#BookishBloggersUnite :: Women and genre writing
Hey all! It’s #BookishBloggersUnite time again! This week is being hosted by my fellow Aussie and bookish friend Sue, from Doddy About Books, and the theme is ‘Favourite Women Writers Across Multiple Genres‘. For my take on this one I’m going to talk about three authors I love who write/wrote genre fiction. Amie Kaufman – Sci-fiIf you’ve been here before you might know I like to find any excuse to mention #loveozya, so talking about an Aussie YA author was too tempting to pass up! I have only read a couple of Amie Kaufman‘s books so far, but I have loved them and plan on reading all of her work.…
